Le Louvre and Last Night in Paris

Ah!  Last day in Paris!  Sadness!  We hit Le Louvre.  I was sad we only had time for one museum, but I'm glad we chose the Louvre.  When we got there this chalk artist was out front creating this master piece.

There was so so much to see at the Louvre.  It was overwhelming! Here are a few of my favourites.
I loved this horse mermaid cup.  How fun is that?

I loved the Winged Victory of Samothrace.  Absolutely incredible.
The Battle of David and Goliath was so interesting.  It was a two sided painting!
I don't remember what this one was called, but I really liked it.
Since it was nearly Christmas time... love this depiction of the first Christmas night.

The Mona Lisa... at the risk of sounding uncultured I have to say...I don't get it... there is a lot of art that moves me... but the Mona Lisa isn't one of them.  But apparently it moved a very important person and viola, masterpiece status.  I'm glad to have seen it in real life... but still sadly, quite unmoved by it.

The Raft of Medusa, however, I find intensely moving!
Along with Liberty Leading the People.  One of my all time favourite paintings.  Extremely moving in person.

I am sad that I didn't have the stamina to see everything the museum had to offer, but I am very happy with what I did see.

Not sure what this is, but a cool tower in downtown Paris.
It was our last night so we did a lot of wandering and eating!  We ate and ate and ate!  Cheese platter, a whole bucket, and I mean bucket, of oysters, chocolate, and of course, escargot!
Happy to be married to this babe.

So much cool architecture every where.

Here is the escargot.  It was quite good.  But then again almost anything can taste delicious smothered in garlic and butter!

Here was the finished product of the chalk artist.  Interesting.
And then just like that our Paris trip was over.  It was packing and clean up and off to the airport the next morning.  So sad.  I snapped this photo of the rose I got at the Eiffel Tower drooping... it really personified what I was feeling having to leave Paris and return to normal life.
