Easter Break -Egg hunting

So on Saturday of Easter weekend, we decided to have our own little Easter egg hunt.  So the only problem was that plastic eggs are not a big thing here. They like don't do them.  Everyone just hides the pre-wrapped chocolate eggs and bunnies.  Much simpler, but I did manage to get my hands on 8 plastic eggs.  So we had a bunch of chocolate eggs and 8 plastic eggs to find.

But before we did our own backyard hunt, I had heard that the Target store here was having an Easter egg hunt, so I thought we would go check it out.  Oh my goodness.  It was the strangest thing ever.  All these people who had probably heard the same as me that there would be an egg hunt at Target at 11 am were like roaming around the store.  It got later and later and we figured it wasn't really happening, when someone dressed in an Easter bunny costume comes out of no where frantically grabbing all the chocolate eggs he can by the registers, while kids are trying to say hi to him, but he is ignoring them.  Then after he fills a basket he has with eggs, he starts running down aisles just chucking them on the floor and then he was gone.  Oh my goodness, I was dying laughing.  It was just so weird!

Here are the kids before we left to go to Target.
I only snapped a few pictures of them looking for eggs in Target
Here is Ava crying because she only got two eggs, but I think she faired better than most kids there expecting a hunt.  Lily was so sweet and re-hid two of her eggs she found so that Ava could find more.

After that we came home and had our own egg hunt.  Lily helped dad hide the eggs.  So much for her believing in the Easter bunny! :)

Here is the little crew ready to find some eggs.
Here they are on the search.

 Ah, success!:)

Here is a video of some of the hunt.  I apologize for how much I talk!

Here are the kids enjoying their spoils.

Later that night, the Easter bunny paid us a visit and hid the kids baskets around the house while they were showering.  Here are the kids finding and enjoying the contents.

It was a great day packed full of Easter fun!

Easter Break-Good Friday

For Easter, the kids and Cory got to have Easter break.  The kids had Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday off of school and Cory got the Friday and the Monday off of work.  So we had lots of days to have lots of Easter fun!  It was also the first time for us to be away from family on Easter, so we got to decide what we would do for the holiday weekend.

Originally, I had wanted to go on a little trip down to Esperance and see the beach once more before the winter set in.  But financially it didn't work out for us right now.  I'm glad too, because it gave us the chance to focus on each part of the important meaning of Easter.  So since the girls had no school on Friday, we decided to celebrate Good Friday.  We woke up and we talked about what happened on Good Friday and why it is called Good Friday.  We watched a little movie about the trials and the crucifixion.  I was so amazed at how well my girls grasped the concepts and just desired to learn more.  Ava kept asking over and over again to watch the movie with Jesus hanging on the clothes line.  (Love her!)  So we watch the movie a few times throughout the day.  We talked about how what Jesus did for us was so good and that is why it is called good Friday.

We also had some fun!  We made toilet paper roll bunnies and colored eggs on Good Friday.

Here is Lily with the toilet paper roll bunnies.

The girls seriously had so much fun playing with these all day after we made them!  It was so fun to see them getting along so well and being entertained by toilet paper rolls!  With kids, simplicity is best!

And here is our egg dying fun!

On Pinterest I saw that you can bake the eggs instead of boiling them.  So I decided to try this method out because I hate to admit it but I am lousy at hard boiling an egg.  I know it should be like the easiest thing to do, but I really cannot get it right!  My yokes are always runny, or I crack the eggs or something.  So baking them worked much better for me, but if you're good at boiling an egg, I would just stick to that, because they were very hard to peel and they didn't smell less sulfury like the blog claimed they would.

Here are all the kids ready to dye eggs.  Lily kept relating dying eggs to Jesus dying on that day.  I liked that she was remembering Him, even in our "fun" Easter activities.
Unfortunately, Will was being too much of a nuisance, so we waited till nap time to actually dye the eggs.  It would have been disastrous to include him.  Maybe next year, mate!

I was a little worried about them not turning out very well since the eggs were brown.  But I actually really like the shades of color that we got.
Didn't they turn out nice?  It kind of fits our autumn Easter instead of a spring one.  :)

So after the eggs were completed we decided to have a little friendly competition with a nose egg roll race.  The name says it all you have to roll the egg to the finish line with your nose, this is actually harder than it looks and when I raced Ava, I didn't even have to let her win, she really just did!

So here are a few photos of the races.

It was Cory vs. Lily first.  Here they are at the starting line.

 Ava was the officiator.
 And they were off.

Here is a video of the end of the race.

It was close, but Lily came out victorious.

Then it was me vs. Ava.  Ava was really fast, but since she is just such a little sweet heart, when she was almost to the finish line she said, mom I'll come back to help you.  She is too sweet!  I, of course, told her to hurry and go win so I could quit this nonsense.

So she did, here she is crossing the finish line.
And then there was Will.  After we did the races he wanted to do them over and over.  He kept motioning me over to the fridge, I'd open it, he would grab two eggs, one for me and one for him, then he would go over to the carpet set down the egg and wait for me to say go, and then he would pretend to eat it.  He is hilarious.

Here is a video of Will "egg racing"
And the grand prize for the winners was a giant chocolate egg.  Here they are with the prize, gee. they look happy! :)

It was a pretty good Good Friday!  And in the words of Lily, it was the best day ever!

Water Fun Day and Other Stuff

So Lily's school is right next to the Oasis, which is a huge recreation center with swimming pools and weight rooms and everything that goes with a recreation center.  So Lily's school gets to go there a few times in the year to have what they call a Water Carnival.  They have a bunch of competitions, well the older kids do. Lily's grade just got to go and play in the kiddie pools outside.  They did do some games, but I don't think they kept track of who won or lost or anything.

Here is our cute little swimmer, ready to go!

Here's Lily with her team, waiting for the first event.

They had to pass a sponge from the front of the line over and then under, and then the last person had to squeeze the water from the sponge into a bucket.  Lily was the last person, so she was the sponge squeezer.  The kids were having so much fun!

My phone battery died after this event, and so I decided to take the other kids home since it was really difficult to try and keep Will out of the water!  Anyways, she looked like she had lots of fun!

This was the last day of school before Easter break, so later on in the day they had an Easter Hat Parade with these cute hats they made.

Isn't that such a cute hat she made?  I think she looks darling!
And here are just a few other random pictures.

Here is Ava and her friend, Annabelle.  I had some extra fabric from Ava's mermaid tail so I made one for Annabelle too.  Aren't they darling little mermaids?

Here are the kids at the Primary Easter Activity.

Here are the girls being silly.

They always want me to take pictures of the most random stuff.  So here are a few weird random pictures.

I attempted to make homemade samoa girls scout cookies, and though they may look like the real deal, it wasn't it!  You just can't counterfeit that stuff, I guess.  I just needed some high fructose corn syrup, or some other processed chemical that's really bad for you, and then I would have had it!!!  I miss those cookies!  One day, I'll eat one again.
